Adrian Armstrong sent me a very thoughtful email. “Don’t be too embarrassed, Geoff. It could look a lot worse. The last time anyone forgot a game was happening in Adelaide they left out Wood and Leach.
Touch.

The TV is just replaying the first game, which has been training well this weekend since it was played.

What would a washout mean for the series? A 4-2 points tally, which for England would be like winning one and losing one after that opening beating. Not so disastrous. The test match is worth four points for a win, then there are three ODIs worth two points each. Australia holds the trophy and would therefore retain it if the scores are tied.

I can’t see us playing today. We have an hour and a quarter to spare, and it’s the rain that comes from south to north.

And here are some rather special thoughts from bowler Megan Schutt on nearly a year away from the Australian squad as she and her partner gave birth to their very premature daughter.

What do we have for you in the meantime? Here is Raf’s account of the first game, which it must be said was a doozy.

Adelaide Radar is a horror show. Giant shoals of multicolored wet stuff. It’s dry in Canberra, dry in Melbourne, fairly dry in Sydney and Brisbane, and a nice sunny day where I am in Hobart. Sigh.
02:59
Anyway, let’s talk about Canberra. I had a test match there from Thursday. A day too, where most women’s tests recently have been daytime nights. So it will be good to see the red ball in action. I’ll be there for the Guardian.
It also means two tests for Australia in the space of four months, which shouldn’t be notable, but it is currently. Hopefully last September’s test against India will mean more testing against other touring teams in the summers to come.

What do you know! The forecast for ADELAIDE is terrible. Slag. Horrible. Up to 25mm of rain with a 90% chance, with a chance of clearing late in the afternoon. The deadline for this match is 3:37 p.m., so a lot of late afternoon goodness will do us good.
02:52
Well, I can tell you why the predictions are wrong. It’s because I thought about going to Canberra for the test match this week, and I forgot that match was in Adelaide. Clever.
02:47
There’s nothing on the radar, a few tiny cloudy acne spots on New South Wales’ face. But somehow it still manages to rain in Canberra. Be ready.
Update

In fact, the BOM prediction still looks correct. Mostly sunny, 5% chance of light rain. But that rain is currently happening on Manuka Oval.

Preamble

Hello, cricket buffs. It’s already time for the third game in the T20 installment of this multi-format Ashes series. The first game saw England score very well, then Australia smashed it in reply. Yesterday’s second game was a blow in what is otherwise expected to be a fairly dry week in Canberra. The forecast for today looks good. Or so I thought…
This is not the case for Tayla Vlaeminck. Australia’s fastest woman has missed a lot of cricket from 2020 with a stress fracture in her foot. Now, after a few matches, it’s back. Terrible news for her, with another missed World Cup ahead.
England need to find something in his absence today or they will see a 5-1 aggregate and a run that is already slipping away.
