A controversial UK report on racism found something that class leftists have argued for some time, that inequality is much more driven by socio-economics than identity…
The report added that evidence had found that factors such as geography, family influence, socio-economic background, culture and religion had “a greater impact on life chances than the existence of the racism”.
The report also says there is an “increasingly strident form of anti-racist thought that seeks to explain all minority disadvantage through the prism of white discrimination” that it says distracts from “other reasons success and failure of minorities”.
…while people of color are more likely to be in poverty, there are more white people in poverty…
People from black and ethnic minority families are two to three times more likely to live in persistent poverty than people from white families. For example, three in ten people (28%) living in families with a mixed or multiple ethnicity head household live in persistent poverty, compared to 10% of those living in families with a white head household. . However, 80% of people in persistent poverty live in families headed by white people.
…the middle-class identity politics team was of course triggered by this British report because the idea that white people are equally damaged by the socio-economic carnage of free brand capitalism (as opposed to their goal of identity ubur allas) is heresy.
The identity politics left has embarked on the territory of “social justice” that alienates more than it attracts. As a class leftist, I believe the demarcation of power in society is between the 1% and their 9% enablers versus the remaining 90% of us.
Economic justice does more than outlaw gay conversion, criminalize speech, or gerrymander the legal system to ensure that anyone accused is found guilty, it redistributes wealth and directly supports the cost of daily living. Beneficiaries and working-class people care less about pronouns and the correct pronunciation of te Reo than about how to pay next week’s rent and electricity bill!
The pure doctrine of the temple divides and alienates. Broadchurch universals build solidarity.
I’m no longer interested in the awakening of social justice, it’s a minefield of competing schisms throwing vitriol at each other.
Twitter’s outrage is woke justice porn for the middle classes. A puritanical shave where the self-elected morality police publicly blame and nullify anyone for not using the language protocols of the conclave.
I am interested in economic justice and the immediate well-being of the poorest among us while offering immediate improvements in living conditions.
We need to be nicer to people and crueler to businesses.
When the awakened ones have finished arguing over who is more right and who is more wrong, they can join in.
How do we use the power of the state to universally subsidize the lives of the poorest in a way that makes sense to them? Paying higher benefits is one way, but the vile MSD finds ways to claw back all those increases like you did with Labor’s last pitiful rise.
Let’s push for policies that have a direct impact on the lives of the poorest so that standards of education and quality of life actually rise. Let’s take the direct cost out of people’s pockets just to exist. Removing the cost of public transport and children’s breakfasts and lunches would have a dramatic impact on the lives of the poor.
Let’s make sure that taxation targets corporations and the wealthy while subsidizing the costs of the poorest.
I present the 10-point left-wing economic justice plan for Aotearoa New Zealand.
1: Give every child in New Zealand a free, nutritious and healthy breakfast and lunch at every school using local produce and school gardens with paid parents to help out.
2: 50,000 State Homes for life built to the highest standards of environmental and social architecture using the Public Works Act to seize land and immediately begin building satellite towns using upgraded transit nodes.
3: Free public transport and extensive infrastructure upgrades for the climate crisis.
4: Double welfare benefits and student allowances minus any bullshit clawbacks from the MSD plus the living wage universally adopted as the minimum working wage.
5: GST on fresh fruits and vegetables and essentials like tampons, toilet paper, condoms, oral health, plus a tax on sugar.
6: Free dental services for all thanks to public health.
7: Debt cancellation – student loans, welfare overpayments, recipient debt, easier debt cancellation.
8: Corporate-based taxation like financial transaction tax and the first $10,000 is tax exempt.
9: Tenant Rights – (rent freezes, end of tenancy payments, long term tenancy agreements) plus universal union membership.
10: Properly funded public broadcasting with TVNZ ad-free and merged with RNZ alongside properly funded journalism via NZ on Air with more money for arts and sciences. If you can’t have good public journalism, right-wing media will destroy these other 9 breakthroughs.
Don’t tell me we can’t afford all this, we just shoveled $60 billion into the pockets of real estate speculators, we can shovel a tiny fraction of it into the mouths of the poorest.
As the middle class identity politics clique continues to find ways to divide us with social justice, economic justice can be a working class populist antidote to the alienation of revival cancel culture.
In 2010, the 388 richest people owned more wealth than half of the entire human population on Earth.
In 2015, this number was reduced to only 62 people
In 2018, it was 42
In 2019, there were only 26 people who owned more wealth than 3.8 billion people.
It’s not a democracy, it’s becoming a feudal plutocracy on a burning Earth.
Every aspect of our existence is monetized so that big data sells us more things that we cannot afford. We are alienated and anesthetized by a consumer culture that keeps us neurotic and disconnected. Our work, our existence, every move we make is all designed to suck money from a minority class that sits above us while under neoliberalism, globalization, financialization and automation, our existence as individuals has only become more disposable.
The intellectual response and solutions of the Identity Political Left to these challenges are that all white people are racist, all men are rapists, and anyone who supports free speech is a Nazi wearing uniform.
An election changes a government.
A revolution changes the state.
We need a democratic revolution, not neophytes.
