Newly crowned Mrs. Malta 2021 Nadine Cuschieri is an art psychotherapist. Previously, Ms Rabat is the mother of a five-year-old son and is now eager to use her victory to raise awareness about important social and environmental issues and raise funds to help charities related to mental health.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Check the time to see if I have five minutes left to sleep, and take the opportunity to spend a few minutes setting my positive intentions for the day.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Never change for anyone or anything and always be myself.

What do you never leave the house about?

The keys to the house … but the second in line would definitely be my phone. I have too many things sorted inside, I can connect with others, it has memories in it and I can even pay with it.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

In addition to creating my own family and raising my own child, obtaining my Masters in Artistic Psychotherapy was a huge achievement. However, I find it hard not to mention my latest achievement of becoming Ms. Malta 2021.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Shopping until I drop, then eat a huge Sicilian pistachio ice cream.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

I used to ask “why me?” when really bad things happen to me. Now I have learned to say why not. I am nothing more special than anyone, I take this opportunity to learn from all the circumstances in my life, good or bad. This way I feel like I am continuing to work on myself to be the best version of myself that I can be.

Besides real estate and cars, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?

My wedding dress.

What’s one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

This life will get better.

Who is your inspiration?

I don’t have a specific person, but I draw a lot from practical philosophical concepts because they teach me to live according to the right principles.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Overcome self-doubt, and that’s still a work in progress.

If you weren’t an artistic psychotherapist, what would you do?

Designing outfits and jewelry or making art.

Do you believe in God?

Yes really. I am a very spiritual person and I hope we are part of something much bigger than what we think of and beyond how we behave in our daily lives. Believing in God and all the names given to refer to this immense power, helps me to make sense of events and to live my life with purpose.

If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be?

Sigmund Freud.

What’s your worst habit?

Don’t clear up immediately after completing something.

How are you when you are drunk

Funny and won’t stop laughing with all my heart.

Who would you have played in a movie?

Gal Gadot – Wonder Woman actress.

What trait do you deplore most in others?

Emotional manipulation.

What music would you have played at your funeral?

It’s an old song but super powerful for me – Semper from Elisa.

What is your most valuable material asset?

My house.

What is your first memory?

I was about four years old and I was in the hospital with my sister; we had our tonsillectomy together. I remember rebelling against eating meat and negotiating my way of drinking the mashed apples my mom made for us instead. Just a side note… I did it.

When was the last time you cried and why?

I think it was about five weeks ago when I expressed my pain after feeling emotionally manipulated in a situation. I am honored to have been detained by dear friends.

Who would you most like to meet?

Harrison Ford. Such an icon who starred in so many childhood films like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Meeting him would be epic.

What is your favorite food?

Mediterranean cuisine, especially when presented in a nice platter filled with fresh vegetables, fruits, cheeses, dips and a very good red wine.

Who is your favorite person on social media right now?

Tan France from Next in Fashion.

If you could time travel where would you go?

The 1920s, an era that brought about the reinvention and design of fashion, art, furniture, buildings and is today considered an era of glamor, social and technological progress.

What book are you reading at the moment?

The search for the meaning of man by Viktor Frankl

If you could have one super power, which one would it be?

I am not original this is what I say but I recently read it in a book by Brita Fernandez Schmidt and loved it, I wish I had the power to inspire others to kindness them to each other and to the earth, not to be afraid to be who we are and that we can all help each other to achieve our personal best versions.

What is the thing you want to do before you die?

Travel the world, watch whales, and swim with a manta ray.

What music are you listening to at the moment?

John Legend, Billie Eilish, Charlie Puth.

In the shower or when you work out, what do you sing / listen to?

Songs like Aerosmith’s Pink, Fire Ball and Happy.
